Heritage High highlights the plight of the girl child and her struggle for equal opportunities with the male counterpart. The struggle, being one of the sensitive issues affecting the African girl child makes the novel appeal to everyone concerned. For the four girls involved, high school becomes a place to read and learn. Jessica learns to live with a shocking revelation from her parents while Raelle has already been ‘spoken for Mary’s dangerous experience as a child haunts her throughout her life and Susan’s absentee father makes a comeback. Despite these challenges, the four girls help each other through the hard and good times. The most important thing though is to pass their exams and join the university.
